Description: Learn to paint with confidence using this classic, versatile, and beautiful medium. These sessions are designed for beginners, but are also useful for those experienced in oil painting who want to improve their skills. By the way, even the "Masters" felt the need to practice their skills. In this class, we work with simple still-life compositions to practice drawing, mixing colors, using a palette knife, and gaining skills in brushing our designs onto the canvas. It's a fun and creative experience. You will complete 2 small paintings during the 4 sessions. The class is held in Elaine's private studio here in Alameda's west end. Skill Level: Beginning to intermediate skill levels; 18+ years; Minimum registration required for workshop to proceed. About the Instructor: My challenge as a teaching/working artist is to break down the oil painting process in a logical and, hopefully, clear progression. This process will introduce the basic elements of painting in oils: sketching, composition, color, value, light, and edges. Your learning and practice of these basic painting skills will prepare you for a lifetime of painting in oils. Supply List: Small sketch book drawing Pad. 5”X8” or is a good size. Pencil (lead: #B 2 or B 4 Eraser, any brand (not the soft type) Paint pallet (box) for oil paints, Preferred style is 12” x 16”, Pallet knife, Blick's steel, blade style: sharper pointed head that is 1 1/2 inches) Paint brushes for oils: Paint Brushes Must be “oil paint brushes”. Recommend: “Signet by Robt. Simmons. #4 flat and #6 bright(or flat) and #0 round. Brush Cleaner: “The Master’s” Brush Cleaner and Preserver” small 2.5 oz. Plastic tub with a lid. It preserves the life of your brushes and is not expensive. Oil paint thinners and cleaners are no longer toxic or smelly like the old days! Check out names such as oderless Gamsol by Gamblin or other brands. Use these to thin your paint and other uses. Oil paints colors (small size 37ml tubes): French Ultramarine Cadmium Yellow Light or medium Alizarin Crimson Titanium White Payne’s Gray Sap Green Canvases: Primed (painted) readymade canvases or canvas panels 9x12 . Blick's professional line of canvases and panels are inexpensive. Cancellation Policy
Cancellation & Refund Policy Frank Bette Class or Workshop Cancellation and Refund Policy The instructor has the option of cancelling a class or workshop that does not meet the required minimum of enrolled students three (3) days prior to the start date. All fees for cancellations may be refunded. Registered students must notify the Frank Bette Center at least five (5) full days prior to the start of a class or workshop to effectively cancel registration and be eligible for a full refund. To cancel, email classes@frankbettecenter.org and the class or workshop instructor or call the Center: 510-523-6957. Students cancelling no less than three (3) full days prior to the workshop may receive a credit for a future workshop upon approval of the instructor. Credits are valid for up to six (6) months from the date of issue. Fees for cancellations made after the class or workshop start date and no-shows are charged the full amount. No credits are issued. Frank Bette Center for the Arts reserves the right to cancel any class or workshop. Registrants are notified by phone or email and may receive a full refund or a credit towards future workshop by the same instructor.
