Artist Presentation

Johan Fredrik Källman is a professional Swedish light artist whose practice operates at theintersection of art, science, and public space. Holding a Master’s degree in Fine ArtPhotography from the University of Gothenburg, he creates immersive and interactive lightinstallations that transform natural optical phenomena into shared public experiences.Since 2021, Källman has developed a body of work centered on analogue light systems,perception, and direct audience participation, where visitors actively shape light, color, andspatial environments through hands-on interaction. His installations are designed forfestivals, urban environments, and public contexts, emphasizing accessibility, curiosity, andcross-generational engagement through direct encounters with light itself.His work has been presented internationally across North America and Europe at majorpublic light festivals including Portland Winter Light Festival, Lumière Vancouver, LUMEN inWaterloo, and Autumn Lights Festival in Oakland. In recent years, his practice has also beenpresented in connection with Swedish cultural representation abroad through collaborationsinvolving both the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa and the Embassy of Sweden inWashington, D.C., positioning his work within ongoing international cultural exchange.Alongside his artistic practice, Källman develops workshops and artist talks that bridgeartistic exploration with STEAM learning and scientific communication. Through hands-onexperimentation with prisms, optics, and analogue light systems, these educational formatsengage youth, families, and public audiences in accessible explorations of light physics,color theory, and perception.
