Here's what Tom says about the workshop:

"the spaces between the words"

keywords:

do not bring a poem

we will be writing during the workshop

after a short intro.

i will be sharing ways to approach:

improv.

melody (both syllabic and melismatic).

poetry-as-subject rather than; subject-for-poetry.

Tom is a performance-based poet; not an academic poet.

our forms will be organic and personal.

the emphasis will be on how to pull a poem from the air

and produce it live,

while balancing the importance of content; in text, in sound, and in structure.

I've been on the road with my series "Piano Bars and Low-rise Motels" taking poetry to outside venues. I've also been very active with Ina Coolbrith and Bob Stanley's Sacramento Poetry Group. I have read live for John Rowe's Berkeley Poetry Group, and am a frequent reader with "Coastside Poetry" (Half Moon Bay) and Sande's group in Petaluma and Las Vegas.

I am honored to be a featured reader at Ina Coolbrith in February.

Currently I'm helping out in the Poet Laureate selections process in both Benicia and Vallejo.

Happily, my Poetry Hour show on Ozcat Radio continues to be vital and rewarding.
