PEACH PIE AND PARALLELS
CAROL SQUICCI
June 5 – June 27, 2026
Reception: Saturday, June 13, 3–5 pm

From the Artist:
When I paint, I explore the intricacy inherent in the mundane,
investigating complex shapes, surfaces, reflections and
shadows, and the relationship between the subject’s colors and
that of its overall composition.
I might find a leftover piece of lemon pie in my refrigerator calling
out to be elevated into a work of art. Sometimes I will attach a
transitional fork, all the better to enjoin the pie. I highlight these
pieces to make the everyday a special treat.
Early painting influences were Mel Ramos, my art teacher at CSU
East Bay and his contemporary, Wayne Thiebaud. Ramos’s work
focused on edges, pop art subjects and bold language graphics.
Thiebaud inspired me through his complex color, reduplication of
objects and the creation of edible delights. I later focused on
graphics and evolved to desktop publishing completing studies
at College of Arts, Oakland; Academy X and the Academy of Art,
San Francisco.
My art careers included teaching fine arts, design and computer
graphics at Oakland’s Skyline HS and Laney College. I offered
fundamentals of drawing at Frank Bette Center for the Arts for
over 7 semesters. I engage in arts such as branding and cover
design, independently consulting. I hold a place and a palette at
the Dalander Studio, 1303 Lincoln Avenue, Alameda, California.
