Teaching at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts

Classes, workshops, and programs are pillars of the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. Our experienced instructors offer regular classes and workshops while new instructors are encouraged to propose new and exciting directions.

How it works
Our experience shows that potential instructors must either already have a following or be prepared to build a following of potential students and attendees. The Center strongly suggests new instructors conduct marketing surveys to determine potential interest before sending the Center a proposal - and including this information in the proposal.

Once a proposal is accepted our in-house marketing and communications and gallery management teams can assist with marketing and communication. In return, we require a commitment of three teaching cycles for all new classes and workshops. So, if a class is proposed to run for six sessions, instructors must commit to three (3) cycles of six (6) sessions.

Allow six (6) to eight (8) weeks advance of the class for marketing.

Note: instructors are strongly advised to take on the bulk of the marketing although the Center can advise and consult. As a volunteer run organization, the Center’s teams cannot commit to handling all the publicity for any class.

What the Center does
  • The Center posts class information on the FBCA website. (See guidelines on what instructors must do to ensure the success of this effort.)
  • The Center sends out bi-monthly online newsletters, one of which focuses entirely on class offerings, to approximately 1000 subscribers.
  • The Center posts a notice about each class within the gallery.  (See  guidelines and template on what instructors must do to ensure the success of this effort.)
  • The Center posts class information to its Facebook page.
  • The Center share its suggested online calendar and publications where instructors can post class information. (New leads are welcome….)

NOTE:  Frank Bette Center members have first opportunity for classroom space. Become a member.

What an instructor does
  • Instructors must provide class title, instructor’s name, dates and days of class, class description, materials list (if any) and additional notes (if any) to the program coordinator and to the communications team. (See guidelines and template.)
  • Instructors must design a promotional flyer and post it around town and/or send to personal newsletter(s) list(s).
  • Inform local art organizations and groups about the class.
  • Post class information to online calendars and message boards.
  • “Share” the Center’s Facebook posting with “friends.”

Commission
  • Class/workshop fees are split 60% instructor and 40% FBCA.
  • The Center handles reservations and collects registration fees. Instructors are paid commission at the end of the month following the completion of the session.

Cancellation and refunds
  • Instructors may set a minimum number of registrants required to proceed with a class/workshop.
  • Instructors may cancel three (3) full days prior to the start date if minimums are not met.
  • Instructors set the maximum number of students allowed in any class/workshop.
  • The Center handles refunds.
