Glass in Watercolor: 1 Session
Glass watercolor by Wendy Soneson
About the instructor: Wendy Soneson has been teaching watercolor at seven locations in the Bay Area for five years, and before that, for 30 years in Boston. She has been the John Singer Sargent guest artist at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, for the last seven years. Her approach is fine arts, as in a university setting, which in the end, she believes, adds much more to one’s life than just a hobby. Check out Wendy's website here! You can also find Wendy at Patreon.com. Her last show locally was a one woman show at Oakland City Hall, 2019, with paintings of Oakland in Transition.

Title: Glass in Watercolor: 1 Session
Instructor: Wendy Soneson
Dates: February 21, 2021
Day & Time: Sunday, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Description: This workshop will work from a photo of a cut glass vase, learning how to see as an artist: shapes, edges, colors in three dimensions, and values.
The class will consist of pre class video, and then during class time, on zoom, a conversation with the group, then a demonstration. After final questions, I will follow up with students individually after they complete assignments.
The intricate and daunting challenges of painting reflective materials like glass are an excellent way to hone your watercolor skills by sharpening the artist eye. If you take the time to look closely at shapes and values, and devote the time necessary to work through each portion of the subject, you will be rewarded with a dazzling result. Working from reflections is especially good for turning subject matter away from the idea of what we are painting, towards the more professional way of translating visuals into painters’ terms, and make it easier to approach less complicated material in the future. A great way to advance a lot in one session.
Please watch these pre class mini lessons for an idea of how we will be working.
