About the instructor: Mela Delgado is a professional artist that believes that taking time to make art and being surrounded by it can make you understand yourself, life and make the world a better place. She earned her BFA from La Escuela de Artes Plasticas de Puerto Rico, and her MA in Museum Studies from John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, CA. Mela has exhibited her art in Puerto Rico, South Florida and California. She creates private art commissions for homes and businesses; and volunteers her creative talents to non profits in her community. Apart from being an artist, she works at The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and other local Bay Area Museums. She also teaches private and public after school art in Alameda, CA. In 2016, Mela was chosen as one of the Hearts Sculpture Artist for the Hearts in San Francisco Project by the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Day & Time: Sundays, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Description: Every year I wait with anticipation to celebrate El Dia de los Muertos. For me it’s a day when I can remember and honor the people that are not physically present with me anymore but that their souls will forever live within me. It is also a time to create your very own altar where you can fill with memories and offer gifts to the dead. With this class you can create your own altar to have in a very special place in your home. It's also a beautiful gift to remember and honor a loved one that we truly miss. This workshop is divided into 2 days.
Materials and techniques
Create piece (cutting, setting, gluing)
Continue Creating piece (cutting, setting, gluing)
Cleaning and polishing
Fees: $160 Members; $175 Non-members
Materials: All materials are included. You will be using different materials to create your altar (glass, beads, jewelry, shells, etc.).
Bring one small photo or copy of a photo of the person you want to honor in the piece. and special things you would like to incorporate into their piece.
Notes: Minimum enrollment required for workshop to proceed. Open to 15 - 100 years of age..
