About the instructor: Art has always been a part of Colleen’s life paralleling her development as a person, through education, becoming an adult, raising children and her professional career. She has successfully merged them all somehow and has been addicted to education her entire life. She is honored to hold an MFA in painting from the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Now with a business degree, a graphic design degree and an MFA, Colleen has all the knowledge and motivation she needed to pursue her fine art practice and teach and inspire students from around the globe.

Title: Color Theory: 7 Sessions Online
Instructor: Colleen Gianatiempo Dates: Jan. 16, 23, 30; Feb, 6, 13, 27 & Mar. 6 Time: Mondays, 9:30 am – 11:30 am PST Online only! Description: Color theory is an essential component of any painting course, as it teaches artists how to effectively use and mix colors to create harmony and unity in their artwork. In this course, students will learn the basic principles of color theory, including the color wheel, primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, and complementary colors. We will also cover color harmonies, such as monochromatic, analogous, and complementary, and how to use these harmonies to create unity in a painting. Students will also learn about the psychological effects of color and how to use color to convey emotion and mood in their work. We will explore the use of color value, saturation, and temperature to create depth and dimension in a painting. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different color combinations and techniques and will be encouraged to think critically about the role of color in their own artwork. By the end of this course, students will have a solid foundation in color theory and will be able to confidently use color to express themselves and enhance the impact of their paintings. Students will make a deck of reference cards during the course to keep for the rest of their painting years!
