About the instructor: John began painting in college as a student of Vernon Nye, noted California school watercolorist. Other influences include Millard Sheets, Morris Graves and George Post, a prominent watercolorist of the ‘80s. He taught at College of the Redwoods then at Pacific Union College from 1997 to 2013 and now also teaches workshops several times a year at various locations in America and Europe. John is a signature member of several watercolor societies across America, has shown in over 130 juried shows garnishing many awards and is often called upon to judge shows. His paintings are in many public and private collections.

Description: Starting with the basic techniques, we will explore the use of color as we apply it to an underlying well planned composition to create your own personal expression of the subjects we choose. Emphasis is always on using light to create a painting that evokes in the viewer an emotional connection to the scene. You will learn to free yourself from the tyranny of detail as you build a new reality with the language of art.
