Class Description: In this exciting, fulfilling class students will learn the techniques for successful cartooning. Lessons will be taught in the traditional way, which means constructing characters solidly in the manner of classic Looney Tunes and Disney cartoons. The foundations of cartooning will be covered, from constructing characters to line of action and getting the proper proportions. Designing appealing characters and drawing clear poses will also be taught in this class. Once students feel comfortable, they can start creating their own characters and even learn the art of caricature. Caricaturing and cartooning share many of the same principles, therefore students will be able to make the leap easily. Join me for a fun, entertaining class... you'll be amazed how far these principles can take you in your goal of making skilled, appealing drawings!

About the Instructor: Gary Francis is an East Bay native and lifelong artist.  He has experience in many forms of art including painting, figure drawing, photorealistic drawings, cartoons and animation. He has always been passionate about art and has recently entered into the world of photography. After attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for 2 years, he transferred to Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach. It was there that he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Animation. He has worked on many freelance art jobs since that time, then decided to go into art education. He successfully completed the curriculum in Early Childhood Education courses, earning a teaching certificate. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching young children cartooning for a year, and would love to continue teaching for many years to come.
