Found Objects Class

Class Description: In this class, you will make different objects – face-masks, puppets, mobiles, and standing figures to learn basic techniques of joining, mounting, and finishing. Explore the properties of wood, metal machine parts, plastic packaging and natural materials as materials used for construction. Learn expanded papier mâché techniques using paper cardboard cloth etc, while learning to recognize and incorporate found objects into art.

About the Instructor: Francesca Borgatta teaches people to make their own constructions with materials recycled from nature and the industrial waste stream. Students and artists work as her collaborators in performances and events designed uniquely to circumstances and environments. She has a MFA in multidisciplinary theater, and long apprenticeships with Peter Schumann of the Bread and Puppet Theater, Indian Dance and Music, Javanese Shadow Puppetry, and Chinese QiGong. She teaches art for the East Bay Depot for Creative Re-Use (47th St. & Telegraph) where she finds many materials for her own construction. She has also worked as artist in residence at SVDP and the Berkeley Public schools
