About the instructor: Janet Butler has an MA in Italian Language and Literature, with a specialization in ESL, from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From 1985 to 2005 she lived in central Italy, in Perugia, province of Umbria, where she taught English and did translating. She is fluent in Italian, and holds dual Italian and American Citizenship. In Italy she taught at the University of Pisa, the Italian Military School for Officers, and private language schools. She has been working as both an ESL and Italian language teacher since relocating to California in 2005. She has lived in Alameda since 2008.

Description: This introductory course uses Cristina Mazzoni’s “Italian Made Simple” (available on Amazon) with great success. This book presents Italian grammar and vocabulary through a charming love story that is easy to follow. Each chapter – there are 46! – is followed by grammar and vocabulary exercises.
Instructor Janet Butler speaks both English and Italian during the class although her goal is to speak more and more Italian as the class advances.
The full course offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. All classes have a maximum of 6 students to present the best opportunity to practice Italian. More classes may be added, if necessary.
Fees: $240 Members; $270 Non-members
