Holiday Music Classes: Ukulele and Guitar
Janet Lenore was teaching guitar classes before she finished high school, picking up mandolin and banjo along the way. She caught the "ukulele bug" about 10 years ago and loves sharing the joy of playing with others. Janet infuses her teaching with a relaxed sense of humor and she comes from a family of teachers. Janet knows how to break down the components of a song, strum and the things a musician is busy doing - all at once!
Janet also leads an acoustic jam on the

Description: Like it or not, the end of year “holiday season” is almost upon us. Those old Christmas songs become a lot more interesting when you can play them on your ukulele or acoustic guitar. Then you’ll be ready when some well-meaning friend or relative tries to encourage you by saying “You’ve been playing your instrument for a little while now, why don’t you play us something?” Instead of being “put on the spot” to perform something, you can loop everyone in the room to play and sing with you while you support the whole crowd with your ukulele or guitar playing. Now the “performance pressure” is off and a new family tradition begins! We will look at some easy-to-play, Santa-centric Christmas songs, a few Hanukkah songs, and maybe something for New Year’s. While this is a “repertoire” class, there will be instruction on how to smoothly transition from chord to chord, use different strums that go well with the songs and take other things into consideration such as selecting a best key for the vocalists. We will do one or possibly two new songs each week but will go over our “set list” every week to reinforce what we have done so far. We will bring all of our songs and more to the monthly Acoustic Music Jam on Wednesday, December 16th.
