| (previous / next) Joaquin Turner Bio: Born among the gnarled cypress trees and windswept dunes of Fort Ord, overlooking the Monterey Bay, Joaquin's childhood began with a visceral connection to the area's unique landscape and ethereal light. His father's career moved the family to Europe where Joaquin was introduced to some of the world's greatest art museums at a very young age. Profoundly influenced by the works of the Old Masters, Joaquin enrolled in private painting classes in Germany and immediately fell in love with oil painting. Upon returning to the Monterey area in 1991, Joaquin earned his degree in Graphic Design and garnered a successful career as a Graphic Designer/Illustrator until his passion for painting led him to escape the office environment in order to pursue a career as a fine artist. Joaquin is highly influenced by the works of late 19th/early 20th century Bay Area artists and his paintings often employ aspects of Tonalism, a distinctive style of low-toned atmospheric painting popular in the Arts and Crafts movement. His work displays a fervent spirituality and admiration for the unparalleled beauty of the Monterey Peninsula and the San Francisco Bay. Visit Joaquin Turner website. ![]() |
