August 31 – Artists Pick-up unsold artwork.

September 1 – $5/day storage fees begin for artwork left at FBCA without advance shipping arrangements.

September 8 - October 31 – Ship unsold artwork to out-of-area artists who have provided advance shipping arrangements.

September 30 – Artist commissions paid for Gallery exhibit sales.

September 30 – Unclaimed Artwork becomes the property of FBCA.

A Fundraiser for the Frank Bette Center for the Arts

The “Frank Bette Plein Air Paintout” event is a fundraiser for the Frank Bette Center for the Arts, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.

 

The Jurying Process

The 3rd Annual “Frank Bette Plein Air Paintout” is a juried event. Forty artists will be selected from all applicants by an impartial jurying team.  The evaluation process is a blind review of artist’s submitted images. The jurors will score and cast their votes by secret ballet. Special note – all the submitted images are shuffled (not grouped by artist) before being presented to the selection jury. Therefore it is recommended that artists submit images of their best work, and not attempt to demonstrate consistency, diversity or a series.

 

General Regulations:

“Jackson Park Exhibit,” Saturday July 19. Participation is required.

  • Exhibited artwork must have been created en plein air, within Alameda city limits, and without the benefit of photography July 15-18.
  • The work must have been All 2D painting mediums are acceptable.
  • Artists are responsible for framing their artwork, bringing it to Jackson Park and hanging it on the displays provided. Filament line and scissors will be available.
  • Artists are expected to be ready for jurying by 9 AM.
  • Only those paintings created in the 2008 Paintout are eligible for awards.
  • After the awards jurying process has completed, returning Artists may add to their display plein air paintings of Alameda from previous FB Plein Air Paintouts.
  • All exhibited artwork must be for sale. Artists set their own prices.
  • All sales transactions will be processed by FBCA.
  • A 40% commission on all sales will be retained to benefit FBCA.
  • Unsold paintings are the responsibility of the artist.

 

“Alameda en Plein Air” Gallery Exhibit, August 1-30. Participation is optional.

  • Artists are expected to submit artwork not sold at the Jackson Park event to the “Alameda en Plein Air” exhibit at Frank Better Center for the Arts Gallery. 
  • There is no additional fee to participate in the August gallery exhibit.
  • FBCA commission is 40% on August gallery exhibit sales.

 

Submit three images on CD:

  • Images should represent recent plein air artwork.
  • Do not submit slides.
  • Submit images on CD in jpeg format.
    • No larger than 1000 pixels in width and 800 pixels in height.
    • No smaller than 600 pixels in width or height
  • Title each jpeg as follows: First initial, last name, entry number (1, 2 or 3)
  • Label the CD with your first and last name and FBPAPO 2008.
  • Enclose your CD in a sturdy jacket.

Please accept images of my artwork for consideration in the FB Plein Air Paintout event and exhibit.  I certify that all my entries are original, conceived and created by me.

If selected as a participating artist, I will participate in the Jackson Park exhibit and sale July 21st. I agree all sales are subject to a 40% commission to benefit FBCA. FBCA has my permission to photograph and otherwise reproduce submitted or completed images with appropriate attribution for promotional purposes. 

I affirm that I have read the entire prospectus and understand, and agree to follow the rules as outlined in the prospectus.   

I acknowledge that: (1) all reasonable care will be taken with the artwork (2) FBCA, its officers, employees, volunteers, and representatives are not responsible for the loss or damage to exhibitors’ artwork, however caused, and whether in transit or on display and (3)FBCA does not carry loss insurance and strongly recommends participants carry their own loss insurance.
